Naps, Nebulas, and Neurons: Mark-Making as a Pathway to Radiance

Artist-in-Residence Daryl Myntia Daniels presents a dynamic exhibition exploring how everyday gestures—how we move, touch, and create—can become powerful expressions of identity and radiance. Centered on the act of mark-making, the work highlights how even the simplest tools can carry memory, energy, and cultural meaning.

With Daniels leading a group of 1001 Colors Gallery Fellows, the exhibition draws from Daniels’ signature use of the Afro pick as both a drawing instrument and cultural symbol. Through layered prints and digital compositions, the work translates small, hand-drawn marks into richly textured pieces that reveal rhythm, repetition, and unseen energy.

Blending analog and digital techniques, this exhibition invites viewers to reflect on the personal objects, gestures, and stories that shape us. Together, these works celebrate individuality, craftsmanship, and collective healing—demonstrating how the simple act of making a mark can become a pathway to radiance.
