A pop up auction that spotlight artists, spark connection, and reimagine space.
The Red Door Project is a pop up art auction series produced by 1001 Colors that showcases local artists working across a wide range of creative mediums. Each exhibition is thoughtfully curated around a unique theme, inviting artists and audiences to explore ideas, stories, and perspectives through art.
By transforming unexpected and nontraditional spaces into vibrant gallery environments, the Red Door Project creates opportunities for discovery, dialogue, and creative connection throughout the city.
Each Red Door Project exhibition is designed to feel accessible, welcoming, and engaging. Artists are selected through an open and inclusive process, and exhibitions highlight work across disciplines such as painting, photography, sculpture, fiber, mixed media, and more.
Every pop up gallery experience is grounded in a strong curatorial theme that encourages artists to interpret, respond, and experiment, resulting in exhibitions that are dynamic and diverse.
Visitors can expect exhibitions that feel fresh, unexpected, and rooted in local creativity.
The Red Door Project is committed to supporting artists in meaningful and tangible ways. Artists who exhibit through the project receive 75 percent of the proceeds from artwork sales, with the remaining 25 percent supporting the mission of 1001 Colors to expand access to creative opportunity and community centered art.
This model centers artists’ labor and creativity while sustaining programming that invests back into the local creative ecosystem.
The Red Door Project is a Cincinnati based art initiative founded in 2014 by Barbara Hauser with a vision to celebrate creativity, inclusivity, and community through pop up gallery experiences.
The project has since evolved into a recognized platform for both emerging and established artists, known for turning non-traditional spaces into hubs of inspiration, conversation, and artistic expression.
Today, the Red Door Project is operated by 1001 Colors, continuing its legacy of artist support, accessibility, and community engagement while expanding its reach and impact.
A signature aspect of the Red Door Project is its use of nontraditional spaces. Vacant storefronts, the Cincinnati Ballet, temporary venues, and unexpected locations become active gallery environments, inviting new audiences into dialogue with art.
By meeting people where they are, the Red Door Project breaks down barriers to engagement and reimagines how and where art can live.
The Red Door Project reflects 1001 Colors belief that art is a powerful connector. By creating platforms for artists to share their work and stories, the project helps build relationships, strengthen communities, and elevate creative voices.
Each exhibition is both a celebration of local talent and an invitation for the community to engage with art in meaningful ways.
Whether you are an artist interested in exhibiting or a community member curious to explore new work, the Red Door Project offers an open door to creativity.
