Mural Studio

Mural Studio

The 1001 Colors Mural Studio offers paid, 10 month long employment for emerging artists who want to gain hands on experience in mural production and arts administration.

Mural Studio Artists are active contributors to public and private art projects while developing the technical, professional, and organizational skills needed to move confidently into freelance work, agency roles, or other creative careers. This program is designed for artists ready to turn passion into practice and experience into opportunity.

What You’ll Work On

Mural Studio Artists contribute to a wide range of creative, production, and professional responsibilities across active public art projects. Work may include:

  • Leading and supporting mural production and on‑site installation
  • Assisting with design development from concept through execution
  • Coordinating project timelines, materials, and logistics
  • Collaborating closely with fellow artists, clients, and community partners
  • Building administrative and professional skills such as client communication, defining project scope, supporting pricing and budgets, and understanding how projects are managed behind the scenes
  • Participating in structured learning and skill‑building sessions designed to expand technical and professional capacity
  • Engaging in weekly Career Development sessions focused on professional growth

Mural Studio Artists learn by doing, gaining hands‑on experience across multiple phases of creative production while working within real project constraints and expectations.

A Job That Builds Real Skills

The Mural Studio is intentionally structured as a career‑readiness experience, not just a production role. Artists gain skills that translate directly to future creative and professional opportunities, including:

  • Technical skills in art, design, and large‑scale production
  • Project management fundamentals
  • Professional communication and collaboration
  • Problem‑solving in real‑world creative environments
  • A deeper understanding of how creative work functions within organizations and client‑based settings

Mural Studio Artists are hired on a 10‑month contract, with the opportunity to continue in the program for up to two cohorts, allowing for deeper skill development, leadership growth, and expanded responsibility over time. Artists leave the program with stronger portfolios, increased confidence, and practical experience that prepares them for the next stage of their creative careers.
