Seasonal Youth Apprenticeship

Seasonal Youth Apprenticeship

A Seasonal Youth Apprenticeship at 1001 Colors is a paid, hands-on creative job for young people ages 14–21 who want to make art, build real world skills, and leave their mark on the city.

Youth Apprentices work in diverse teams led by Teaching Artists to create public art and community centered creative projects, primarily during the summer season. While murals are a signature focus of our work, Youth Apprentices may also gain experience across a wide range of creative disciplines, including design, photography, film, research, screen printing, writing, and more.

If you’re excited to create art, collaborate with others, and contribute to your community, this program is for you.

More Than a Summer Job

Beyond making art, Youth Apprentices participate in creative career development training designed to strengthen:

  • Collaboration
  • Communication
  • Creative problem-solving
  • Critical thinking
  • Goal setting
  • Growth mindset

The Seasonal Youth Apprenticeship is designed for young people who are curious, motivated, and excited to explore creative work in a meaningful, hands‑on way. It’s ideal for those who enjoy being creative, want a paid summer job with purpose, like working as part of a team, and are curious about art, design, or creative careers, while making a positive impact in their community.

You don’t need to consider yourself an artist to apply, just bring an open mind and a willingness to try. Many Apprentices leave the program with lasting friendships, stronger self‑confidence, and a deeper connection to their community, all while earning a paycheck and contributing to real projects that matter.

Supportive, Inclusive, and Artist Centered

1001 Colors is committed to creating an environment where young people feel welcome, supported, and valued. Apprentices are encouraged to bring their full selves to the work, learn from one another, and build meaningful connections with teammates, mentors, and the communities they serve.

Many participants leave the program with lasting friendships, stronger self confidence, and a clearer sense of what is possible for their creative future.
