1001 Colors partnered and collaborated with the Cincinnati Center City Development Corporation (3CDC) to be a part of the revitalization for the First Financial Center, bringing a creative refresh to one of Cincinnati’s most visited civic spaces. Terence Hammonds and Teaching Artist Harmony Maine led a team of seven Apprentices to create 155 screen-printed ceramic tiles for a one-of-a-kind permanent installation at the Convention Center titled Rosette Colored Glasses.
For this installation, each screen-printed ceramic tile portrays a local Cincinnatian. Apprentices explored the Downtown area to interview local residents and photograph their portraits to be a part of this beautiful ode to the City of Cincinnati. When installed together, the collection of tiles celebrates Cincinnati's rich cultural convergence through diversity of ages, races, neighborhoods, and lived experiences.
Rosette Colored Glasses was designed by Terence Hammonds, a printmaker and multimedia artist, known for his ability to fuse civil rights imagery with soul, funk, and rap influences while drawing on histories of racial identity, resistance, and radical subcultures to create decorative, memorial, and narrative works.
