Artist Talks with 1001 Colors Apprentices: Session II
Artisttalk6

Go beyond the finished artwork and hear directly from the emerging artists who are shaping 1001 Colors’ 2026 summer season. This three-part Artist Talk Series offers an inside look at the creative process, collaboration, challenges, and impact behind some of the region's most exciting public art, design, and youth apprenticeship projects.

Each session features project presentations, behind-the-scenes stories, works in progress, and opportunities to engage with the artists and teams bringing these initiatives to life.

Featured Projects

Better Business Bureau Centennial Mural
Created in celebration of BBB’s 100th anniversary, this mural honors a century of businesses built on trust and integrity. Painted by apprentices in a studio setting before installation downtown, the project connects past achievement with future opportunity.

Cincinnati Public Radio Mural
Developed in partnership with Cincinnati Public Radio, this mural examines the First Amendment and the essential role of a free press in a thriving democracy. Timed with the opening of CPR's new facility, the work celebrates community storytelling and civic engagement.

Youth Cartography: Mapping Safe Spaces
Created with The Well, this innovative project invites youth to reimagine mapping through the lens of belonging, safety, and connection. Apprentices will identify Youth Approved Spaces throughout Walnut Hills, Over-the-Rhine, and Downtown while developing new approaches to community-centered planning.

Time Is a Circle (with The Well)
Part of the 2026 FotoFocus Biennial, this multidisciplinary film project explores identity, memory, wellbeing, and our understanding of time. Under the mentorship of filmmaker Andrea Sisson, apprentices will create original short films using storytelling, animation, dance, poetry, and visual art.
